'The Way of the Kingdom' - A sermon series from 4 August to 29 September 2024
As we journey through John’s and Mark’s Gospel, there is something that’s very easy to notice and we need to pay attention to it. This is the fact that the whole book helps readers to know and understand Jesus better. Understanding Jesus automatically invites people to submit to God’s authority. The supreme aim of the Gospel is positive, a faith creating witness to Jesus as the divine Son, in order that the readers may be brought into possession of the life eternal which is promised in Jesus’ name. There is however a negative aim – the defence of the Christian message against attacks from without, or misconceptions of the authority of Jesus Christ.
Mark’s Gospel portrays Jesus as a compassionate healer, restoring wholeness to individuals marginalized by illness, disability, and social exclusion. The healing events recounted in Mark reveal not only physical healing but also spiritual and relational restoration, reflecting God’s desire for wholeness.
